work consists of what is called ‘staged photography’. The final product is invariably the result of a long search for the right combination of ideas, materials, a lighting concept and camera work. While he uses a wide range of props and materials in building his installations, he sometimes includes human figures. The lighting constitutes an important step in finishing the set before it is photographed. Gradually the final picture emerges. Nissim’s photographs never follow a carefully premeditated blue-print, allowing for fortuitous side-accidents and unexpected associations to influence the final result. Hence he tends to produce a series of photographs on a certain theme.
